Flicking through a pile of home, garden and lifestyle magazines one Sunday afternoon, the first shoots of Spotty Button took hold, hung around and wouldn't let go. Not from one of those boil-in-the-bag business solutions but simply from a love of all things nice.

So after 20 years as a midwife and with two children growing up fast, I started my own business - selling the sort of beautiful things I'd see and love dotted around friends' houses. Now I get to do both - spend time with my family and share the things I love.

I try to do things the way I'd want if I was a customer - an eclectic mix of gift ideas and home accessories, an experience which makes shopping from the comfort of your home more enjoyable, and a service which values customer care as much as the things it sells.

Unlike many boutiques I don't have a buyer on every continent. I'm the one who clocks up the miles at trade fairs sourcing new stock, pays the bills, answers the telephone and stays up till all hours to get orders out. And although I'm working harder than ever I like it that way. I hope you do too.
